Despite the federal law stating that no form of botulinum may be commercially sold or distributed unless approved by the Federal Drug Administration, there are thousands of cases of illness and death due to illegal Botox® injections in North America every year.

The ASAPS advises to seek medical clinics where a certified plastic surgeon, dermatologist or registered nurse working under the care of a physician, can provide the highest quality care and safety standards. Ensuring that the clinic you choose is accredited, and whoever is injecting is a trained and qualified health professional is essential to your health and physical wellbeing. It is also important to make sure the botulinum used is FDA approved and purchased in the United States. Your surgeon should provide the necessary information when asked, and if not, you should seek another professional.
